She hadn’t planned on coming, but nostalgia had won. And now, standing near the punch bowl, she felt the years melt away as she locked eyes with him across the crowded room.

“You actually showed up,” he said, approaching with that familiar grin.

She smirked. “So did you.”

They had been everything once—until life pulled them in opposite directions. College applications, career opportunities, the relentless march of ambition.

He hesitated, swirling his drink. “Do you ever think about what would’ve happened if we hadn’t let go?”

Her heart pounded against her ribs. “All the time.”

He exhaled slowly, stepping closer. “Then maybe we don’t have to wonder anymore.”

The music faded into background noise as ten years of distance collapsed into nothing.
